GURUDWARA NANAK PIAO | DELHI | INDIA

Gurdwara Nanak Piao is situated on G.T. Road near Rana pratap Bagh area of Delhi. The gurdwara was built to commemorate sri Nanak Dev, the first Sikh Guru. The site where the Delhi Gurdwara Nanak Piao stands was once a garden where th Guru camped during his visit to Delhi in 1505.

The people, who came to visit the Guru during his visit, used to present him and his bard Mardana with numerous gift, which he distributed among the deprived and poor. Infact, the Gurudwara Nanak piao got its name from the habit of Guruji to offer food and water to the hungry and thirsty people. The well from which Guru Nanak served water to the people is still inside the compound of the Gurudwara.

There is an interesting legend associated with the Gurudwara Nanak Piao. It is said that when Guru Nanak came to Delhi, Sultan Sikander Shah Lodi came to know of his visit. He had heard that Guru had performed the miracle of reviving a dead elephant. So, he asked Guru Nanak Dev to revive the one of his dead royal elephants. However, Guru Nanak refused and as a punishment, the ruler ordered his imprisonment. During the time of his incarceration, Delhi suffered a massive earthquake on July 3, 1505. It was assumed that the ill treatment and captivity of the Guru had caused the calamity. Finally, sikander shah lodi conceded and ordered the release of the guru nanak.

Akshardham Temple Information | Gandhinagar

Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple is an architectural phenomenon that is recounting the cultural heritage of India. Sahajanand is a mind blowing exhibition, which depicts the life of Lord Swaminarayan by the means of ingenious settings and shows. The exhibition incorporates a video show of travel in time, a cosmos of fiber-optics, a miniature replica of Chhapiya village, a Journey through India and not less than three sound-n-light show.

Sat-Chit-Anand:

This is another permanent exhibition that has Integrovision, a fantastic 14- screen multimedia presentation. It elucidates the Vedic philosophy and man’s quest for the eternal truth with amazing imagery. Besides the multimedia presentation, the exhibition comprises a tunnel of mirrors, glass mosaic and musical fountains that dance on tunes.

Nityanand

Following Sat-Chit-Anand, Nityanand is an additional presentation where messages of the Upanishads, Ramayana and Mahabharata are displayed in the course of walk through diagrams and fiberglass figures. Temple Architecture :

After employing continuous labour for 13 years, the colossal structure took its complete form. The colonnade to this shrine is approximately 1751 feet in its length. The massive structure extends to 108 feet in height, 240 feet in length and 131 feet in width. Considered to be an architectural masterwork, the imposing temple consumed 6000 tonnes of pink sandstone that was imported from Rajasthan. The intricate carvings boast of the skilled artisans of Bansipahadpur. No steel or iron has been used in the construction of temple to ensure the maximum life of the monument.

Kashi Vishwanath Temple | Varanasi

The Kashi Vishwanath temple is located in the heart of the cultural capital of India, Varanasi. It stands on the western bank of India’s holiest river Ganges.

The Kashi Vishwanath temple is the center of faith for millions of Hindus. The Jyotirlinga of Shiva, Vishweshwara or Vishwanatha, is enshrined in the Kashi Vishwanath temple, considered as one of the holiest temples of India. In Hindu religion. It is believed that a simple glimpse of the Jyotirlinga is a soul-clensing experience that transforms life and puts it on the path of knowledge and Bhakti – devotaion. A single darshan of Vishweshwara Jyotirlinga is considered to merit more thatn the darshan of other jyotirlingas, scattered in various parts of India. It has been a living testimony of the timeless cultural traditions and highest spiritual values.

The Kashi Vishwanath Temple attracts Hindu devotees and other visitors not only form India but also the world over. Lord Vishwanath is considered the supreme repository of the spiritual truth and strengthens the bonds of universal brotherhood. Late Maharani Ahilya Bai Holkar of Indore built the temple in the present shape, way back in 1780. In the year 1785, a Naubatkhana was built up in front of the temple at the instance of Governor General, Warren Hastings. In 1839, two domes of the temple were covered by gold, donated by Maharaja Ranjeet Singh, the ruler of Punjab. The management of the Kashi Vishwanath temple rests with a trust.

The Vishwanath temple opens daily at 2:30 a.m. for Mangala aarti and between 3 to 4 a.m. tickets are permitted to join. The timing of general darshan is form 4 to 11 a.m. The timing for midday bhog aarti is from 11:30 to 12 a.m. Between 12 noon to 7 P.m., general devotees are free to have Darshan. From 7 to 8:30 p.m. the sapta rishi aarti is held after which darshan is possible again till 9 p.m. the shringar/Bhog Aarti stars and after that Darshan is possible only from outside. Shayana Aarti starts at 10:30 p.m. and the temple close at 11 p.m. most of the offerings at the Kashi Vishwanath temple are given to the poor.

Gurudwara Rakab Ganj | Delhi

Gurudwara Rakb Ganj Sahib was constructed in the year 1732, by Lakhi Banjara, one of the followers of martyred Sikh Guru Teg Bahadur who also performed his last rites. Thereis an interesting legend attached to Rakaabganj Gurudwara of New Delhi. The legend has it that Lakhi ran away to his home with the body of Guruji. There, he cremated the headless body of the guru. It is said that in order to avoid suspicion, he did not make a pyre. Rather, he placed the body of the guru on a bed inside his home and then burnt the entire house.

Later, when the fire extinguished, he gathered the holy ashes and put them in an urn, which he buried on the cremation site itself. It is believed that the Rakab Ganj Gurdwara of Delhi was built on the same site where the house once stood, in the commemoration of the event.

The gurdwara has been named as Rakab Ganj after the market of stirrups – Rakab, that once stood on the area where it is now. The white exterior and impressive domes of the gurudwara make it a place worth visiting.

The magnificent Rakab Ganj Gurdwara standson the Pant road of New Delhi, with the Parliament House and north block of central secretariat facing its front. The building stands surrounded by a beautiful, blossoming garden. There is an entrance on each of the four sides of the gurdwara, symbolizing the fact that it welcomes people of all caste or creed. It is estimated that the construction cost of the Rakab Ganj Gurdwara came to somewhere around 25 lakh rupees and it took 12 years to complete the monuments.

Gomateshwara | Karnataka

Gomateshwara | Karnataka,The Monolith of Gomateshware is situated in Sravanabelgola, one of the most sacred Jain pilgrim centres in india. Considered to be the tallest monolithic sculpture in the world, Gomateshware statue is the pride of Karnataka. It is perched on the top of the Indragiri hill and serves as the symbol of the grandeur of the Jain religion. The monolith dates back to the year 980 AD and was constructed by Chavundaraya, a minister and commandant of King Rachamalla of the Ganga dynasty.

Gomateshwara Monolith stands tall at a height of 58 feet. It is constructed entirely out of granite and depicts Jain saint Gomateshwara, also known as Bahubali, without any clothes. The colossal statue is believed to have been carved out of a single rock and can be seen from as far as 25 km. Since it is situated on a hill, one has to climb around 614 steps to reach the statue. The Monolith of Gomateshwara has been built as per the typical Jain architecture and beautifully represents the exquisite craftsmanship of the Indian artisans.

The body of the saint has been sculpted in perfect proportions and one can feel calmness in his face. There is a very interesting story behind the consturction of the Gomateshwara statue. Bahubali was one of the two sons of Adinath, the first of the 24 Jain saints. He was never interested in the material possessions of his life and gave away the entire kingdom of his father to his brother.

Every 12 years, dring the Mahamastakabhisheka ceremony, the Monolith of gomateshwara is anointed with tons of coconut milk, jiggery, bananas, milk poppy sandalwood and saffron. Jain pilgrims come here from different parts of the country as well as the world to witness this event. This is very good place to see it.
